After55:

At the top of our game

Current Wisdom

The current wisdom among economists and pundits is that this current recession/downturn will last another six to 18 months.  Rather wide range, isn’t it?  With this piece of knowledge, what are you doing to ensure that your business will be around?  Are you looking for new applications for your products or services?

A friend of mine’s market research business has been very hard hit; she is now using the research skills she has honed over the years to do forensic research on companies and products.  Same skills, different focus–and the possibility of weathering the storm.  Keep thinking of new ways to offer your products, reposition your products and solve customers’ problems in new ways.  Your most important product is between your ears–THINK!

One the lighter side —

“Then remember the story of the poor farmer who lost his crops to a drought, battled disease in his cattle and watched his barn go up in flames after being hit by lightning. Somehow, he maintained his pleasant disposition and sense of humor. How did he stand it, his neighbors wondered.

“Well, it’s like this,” the farmer said. “In the Bible, it says, ‘It came to pass.’ But it never says ‘It came to stay.’ ”

Iam in the process of opening a Elderly Care/Senior companion program here in Monroe, La. Until this day I have been unable to get funding of any such. I have worked with senior for the last fifteen years and its a passion I have. Its just so hard to get funding of any sort to start up my program. There are so many senior here that need our help and support so to not be able to do what I love hurt more than anything.I am writing to get some type of help, whether it be promoting or whatever. I also started a program for teen pregnancy and at-risk kids same problem can’t get funding. I started a summer reading program for kids at my church 12:oop- 3:00p Monday – Thursday at our main library on N18th st. I just pray thay God would send a financial blessing so I can be a blessing to someone else.

Thank You to whomever is taking out time from your busy schedule read this . May God continue to bless you and keep up the good work.

    Eva,

I can so understand your frustration and it highlights the plight of business owners everywhere right now with the credit situation. I had breakfast yesterday with Harris Bank President Susan Oleari, who expressed the same frustration from a banker’s side. The current situation of declining credit scores and loss of equity in people’s homes is preventing banks from making credit worthy loans. Keep trying to get free press through articles in your local paper and work through other organizations like your church as you have already started. Your thinking is on target and your problems are those of many others. With your passion, I am sure you will find a way.
