The lessons I learned from attending the JWT LiveWire conference continue to stay with me. I have written before about the content of the conference, but the overall value of getting out among people I didn’t know was even more worthwhile.
I want to encourage all of you to make firm plans to “step out” and meet new people on a regular–if not continual–basis. You’ll hear yourself talk about your business and might be surprised by what you’re saying or how you’re saying it. As you watch people’s reactions to your comments, you can learn a lot!
- What points do you emphasize?
- Are there areas you tend to minimize or glide over because you are not happy with them?
- Are others responding to something you hadn’t thought of?
- Do you like the responses you are getting?
- What would you change?
- How could you generate more interest or enthusiasm?
As you look ahead to the remainder of 2008, make it a point to broaden your horizons and spread the word about your business. You will be pleasantly surprised at the positive feedback (a welcome memory on those days when nothing is going the way you would like!) and unexpected connections and benefits.

Hi! I love this site! I wanted to also try to help others by adding in that when I started my business recently I used a new software called Glyphius. If you are not familiar with it, I want to let you know first and foremost its very simple to use.
Glyphius contains a built-in database of over a hundred thousand profitable and unprofitable ads.It allows you to score your own ad copy against this database for profitability. If the text you just typed scored higher than any prior text you typed and scored in this session, your text is also copied to the top of that screen so you can see the winning text at all times.
It helped me tremendously when letter writing and so fourth.
Hope I have been of some help to you!
Have a great day!

I have heard some excellent things about the conference. Aside from the people what is show cased? Is it services or software? I did some networking with the big bloggers in my business category, one of the strong points you mention and I have been introduced to some wonderful products and services. I have the say the best is glyphius it has really helped me rocket my ad copy. I look forward to hearing more about the conference and what it has to offer.

Anna and Sarah,
Thank you for the heads up on Glyphius! I am sure that many in our community will take a look at it — including me! this is the first I have heard of it.
JWTLivewire was directed toward marketers interested in reaching the Boomer market. I wanted to see what they did with the topic — check out their website jwtlivewire.com to get a good idea of what was presented.

As a life long serial entrepreneur who turns 54 next week, I love to see how many women over 50 are leaping online to start a business for the first time! The internet has leveled the playing field - you don’t need millions of dollars to launch your dream - a computer, an internet connection and the willingness to put in the effort can pay off in a big way.
Personally, I attend about a dozen conferences a year, and my rolodex is my most powerful business asset! I ‘collect’ people - and it is amazing how often these contacts get used 6 months or a year after the initial meeting!
And for those of us that work from home - getting out to conferences or local functions is especially important - it helps to freshen your outlook and I find it is often inspiring to see others response at what I do. It reminds me that yes, I really do have a pretty neat lifestyle, even if I do have a crabby client now and then, or a project that is giving me a fit!
Getting out and actually meeting people is good for you! Just don’t lock me up in that corner office again

Melody, couldn’t have said it better! If we don’t get out of our corner of the world, we forget how gutsy and fortunate we are.

I’m halfway through my 57th year and just starting my home-based business. I’m learning as fast I can what’s available via the internet, learning social networking online, but you’ve “hit the nail on the head” with this post about getting out and meeting people face-to-face. One of my particular challenges, and I wonder how alone I am in this - is that I’m also a fulltime caregiver for my mother-in-law; my time availability to get out of the house is limited. But challenges are there to be overcome.

Linda,
You are NOT alone in the time challenge to get out of the house! One of the biggest issues for Women of a Certain Age is caregiving. It is astonishing how many of us are caring for parents — four of my closest friend have parents in their 90s! I see some great opportunities for creative thinkings in the fact alone.
Your attitude is great — as you find ways to overcome your time challenge, check back and share solutions you have discovered.
