After55:

At the top of our game

Something Old is New Again

Lately I am hearing a lot about an old idea: Mastermind Groups. In his landmark book Think and Grow Rich, originally published in 1937, Napoleon Hill devoted an entire chapter to Master Mind Alliances, a small group of carefully selected colleagues for the purpose of helping you reach your Definite Purpose. Barbara Sher had a similar concept in the late 1970s that she called Success Teams. They were not quite as particularly selected but more a general business success support group.

Today, this idea is as vibrant and important as ever. One of the great difficulties of being an entrepreneur is a sense of isolation as we wear many hats and many times live in our head under those hats. A qualified, supportive (no Negative Nellies or Normans allowed!), committed group of people dedicated to helping you achieve your dreams for your business could be just what the doctor ordered.

If you haven’t read Think and Grow Rich, do! The section on energy is definitely dated, but the rest has made a difference in countless millions of lives. See what it can do for you.

I enjoyed reading your blog today, especially your comments about “Think and Grow Rich,” and I thought that you may be interested to learn that a new edition of Napoleon Hill’s classic book has been published.

Its title is “Think and Grow Rich!” (subtitled) “The Original Version, Restored and Revised.” I am the editor/annotator of this new 416-page edition, which is really an homage to Dr. Hill. (For several years I was the editor-in-chief of “Think & Grow Rich Newsletter.”)

What I have done is this: to restore Dr. Hill’s book to its original manuscript content (it was first published in 1937, but was abridged in 1960), annotate it with more than 50 pages of endnotes (most of the persons and events he discusses are generally unknown to readers today), index it thoroughly, add an appendix with a wealth of additional information about Dr. Hill and his work, and revise the book in ways to help remove certain “impediments” to reading the book today (language that today would be considered obsolete, sexist or racist). None of these things had previously been done with TGR.

I think you would be particularly interested to read the section on “energy” and what I have done with it.

I am glad to hear about an updated version of Think and Grow Rich. It was one of the first books I read early in my career along with my Dale Carnegie Sales Training. So, I will definitely buy the updated version.
