It seems all of the media are highly focused on helping us spend like crazy. We are portrayed as having 1 million social events, being hostesses with the mostest, fantastic home decorators with our to-do lists totally under control–of course, all of this is on top of running our businesses! True confession time. This is not what my December looks like. My holiday celebrations are small and simple. On the business side, December is focused on taking a good, strong look at my business plans. I am not just talking about goals but rather revisiting the plans, metrics, marketing, publicity and connections I want to make happen. I am also taking time to organize, read and think. I am feeling energized rather than exhausted. What are you doing this holiday season?

I just arrived back in USA from a two week business trip to New Zealand. I was bombarded with the whole full blast of Christmas marketing upon my return. It is quite different in New Zealand. partly because it is summer and partly because the culture is just not so focused on shopping. Yes, this is an excellent month for looking at goals for next year but to me, this season is all about being with people I love. It is not about buying gifts. It is about slowing down and building relationships with the important people in my life.
In January I am full force into making some changes in my business and creating goals for the year. It is a powerful time to do this. I offer a seminar on creative business planning and enjoy working with others to move past those mental blocks. I think December it is good to slow down and have down time and then really pick it up in January when it feels like a fresh start.

Same thing we do every year. Have family and an assortment of Christmas orphans (folks with no where else to go) for Christmas dinner. It’s fabulous — my favorite day.
For business, I’m in the process of buying a business — very busy, but very exciting.

I still do the old fashion thing. Family stuff and relax. January is when I get fired up again.
